Why do I have a gut feeling that Roger would win the US Open 2015?

“Why I see Roger holding that US OPEN trophy once more and this year?”

Hey folks! As some of you may have read my last blog about why it doesn’t matter even if Roger doesn’t win even a single Grand slam anymore. Well, today I want to tell you about my feelings, this gut feeling or whatever you may call it that I want to share with you. Before I reveal my thoughts to you on why he would win this grand slam or on what basis my sixth sense even if there is any, is telling me that, i want to admit that I m not a huge tennis follower as some of you maybe but I have been a big follower of Federer himself. I have been watching him as far back as the Wimbledon 2007 final when I was 13 at the time. I just had a glimpse of him in the headlines, him cheering after winning the final point against Rafael Nadal and ever since I have been closely watching him and I am 21 now! Wow! Time passes by quickly!

So Last night as I was watching his encounter with John Isner, and I don’t know if you had the same feeling or something but I literally shouted “WOW!” and was like “This guy is still the best!” Those were not just words of a fan, being cheered or something but he did mesmerize me by his extraordinary shots. His ever-swift movements on the court and some of his returns specially the one down the line left me baffled. And as I stated earlier I have been watching him closely for 8 years now, and he left such a mark after this match that I cant stop thinking why he shouldn’t win the tournament. This is the first reason why I am so positive about his chances.

Secondly, the way he has been playing throughout the tournament without losing a single set up till now, and similarly the way he played last month in Cincinnati all the way to the final without dropping a set and winning it, is telling me out loud that Roger is going to clinch this in a similar fashion. But to tell you beforehand, I am not sure about him winning all the sets but definitely winning the title.

But how could you say that in the presence of Djokovic? I know, and the Novak factor did pinch me but for a while. I admit that he is the no.1 and he is playing great and is the guy to beat. But when I think of his loss against Roger in the Cincinnati final last month, it senses
me that similar thing is going happen and that is if Roger faces him in the final. Lol if you know what I mean!

  1. Beating Djokovic in a 3/5 set match at the U.S. Open is a big ask for Fed. The conditions in Cincy suit Roger’s game much more than at Flushing Meadows – faster courts, best 2/3 & the element of surprise tactically.
Should both men reach the final, Novak in 4 sets.

  2. Hey Dave!Thank you for your feedback! You are very right about Novak being favourite precisely for the reasons you have just mentioned, probably more than 50% of tennis followers would make Novak the favourite but i just mentioned what i felt about some of my feelings, you know the inner feelings that i think some people have about certain situations and its not more than that. You as well as most of other people are right about Novak holding the upper hand and i do know that! 🙂

  3. Hi Mark! Thanks for your reply! Yes that is what i hope for too and rightly so because i think as you get older your body isn’t the same as it were before, you get tired more quickly or your muscles don’t respond the same as they were before! So keeping the matches short would be important for Roger as he did in Cincinnati last month! 🙂

  4. Here’s my theory: If Federer is playing well, and right now he is, I don’t think anyone in the world can beat him in terms of talent and shotmaking. There is only one way to beat Federer when he’s playing well: get in his head. The way to do that is to pull off a few miracle saves and unlikely winners early in the match, especially on points where Federer has played a good point and hit several great shots. Djokavic and Nadal are both really good at doing this. Their miracle saves and unlikely winners from losing positions would never be enough on their own to win the match, but those shots plant doubt in Roger’s mind, and that makes him tentative and unsure. One miracle save will yield one or two errors from Roger; two miracle saves within three games will yield 3-5 errors from Roger, and so on, until Roger stops attacking, and Djokavic/Nadal can win easily once that happens. If you could hypnotize Roger to forget those miracle shots the moment after they happen, Roger would have 5 more grand slam titles than he does.

  5. hey! @badpoetry You couldn’t be more correct about that. Even i get the same feeling. Once an opponent pulls off those miracles as Novak and Rafa has done, Federer does get behind the match. I agree with you 100%!

  7. The most important thing for fed if he CAN BEAT Stan is that he neeed to serve abut 75% 1st serve in. Otherwise Novak will break him easily, Fed need to be able to go throw his own game fast so he can put energy in breaking Novaks. serve. And i also believe that he needs to win in 3 set otherwise Novaks incredible physics will have the uppehand, but who knows…miracle can happen and if Fed beat stan in 3 set and Novak and Cilic goes 5 then anything can happen.
